Along with it's stability, QT has the advantage of being able to play MPEGs, so you won't even need to convert your video clips!

In the stub projector, you can check for quicktimeVersion() < 5.02, then ask if user wants to install when QuickTime is not present...or is an earlier version. A stand-alone installer can be on your CD, and the stub projector can launch it for an (almost) seamless upgrade. The Wintel box doesn't even have to restart to use QuickTime. The user will have to manually re-launch or re-insert the CD-ROM for autorun. I know that PC-centric developers usually see the use of QuickTime as an unnecessary bother, but in my fairly extensive experience developing hybrid CD-ROMs (runs on both platforms), I have seen many problems in the WMF/AVI architecture. Microsoft has really screwed it up. QuickTime is the most reliable, consistent, and stable solution. It's so much better that it is worth the effort to use it. It's also free.
