Some of the earliest programming I did was in machine code on an Apple II+. That was a lot of fun, because if you were trying to do something fast and found a way to save a couple of cycles, it could be quite a big percentage improvement. With one thing I was trying I expanded it sort of in the way Jakob was talking about. Instead of repeating the routine every go, I had the same few lines 256 times in a row. That cut out a lot of cycles that would be needed for each BNE, or whatever. Of course, I'm going to try and find a faster way of reversing a list now. I was just getting warmed up earlier...
