Consider the digital video formats Director supports (via Xtras, of course).
You've got QuickTime, AVI, MPEG, WMP and RealMedia (and ?)

AVI - forget it, not xplat.
WMP - forget it, not xplat.
Real - if you're using 8.5+, requires (ugly) system player install.
MPEG - xtra or QT player for Windows, requires some kind of player software
be it Media Player or QT. QT version 4.0+(?) required for Mac playback.
QT - most folk have some flavour already and wouldn't(/shouldn't) mind
updating, esp. if you include the installer.

FWIW, I reckon QT has to be the best bet - depending on
quality/codec/windowSize issues. The major hiccup is that you need to
restart your projector after an install. And work around the flashes.
