I'm not familiar with Phil Gross's book, but yes, I was technical editor
for 'A Beginner's Guide.' The author, Warren Ockrassa, is also on this
list. I see that he and others have posted good recommendations--I would
only add that I think Amazon.com ships to Singapore, so you can probably
buy the books you need online.

I may be partial because I worked on Warren's book, but I think it's a
good one. I think I can recommend it more easily than Warren--as author,
of course, he gets royalties, and he may be reluctant to toot his own
horn. I don't gain anything from the sales, though, so I can recommend
it with a clear conscience :-)

        Also, understand that my contribution to the book was pretty
minor. Warren did all the heavy lifting--I was just the second pair of
eyes. Mostly my contributions consisted of things like "This sample
movie gives a font substitution notice on Windows."
