hello,

thanks very much for your replies to my avi post... i have since checked
whether the video runs ok on its own on the mac... lo and behold, it does.
the quicktime player opens and it is displayed. does that mean, that it's
not a case of the codec extensions missing? or could it still be the codec?
also re the linking: i'm not doing it via lingo. i have simply imported the
videos into the cast via "import" and the videos are still in the same
folder relative to the movie i am using them in. could the link still be
broken? as i said, in authoring mode, director is not asking me to replace
the movie (which as i understand it is the case if a link was "lost" if eg.
a video was moved to a different folder after importing it).

as for the ugly text sprites, i found the solution to that problem here:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/director/ts/documents/field_blend.htm
apparently the .blend of text fields cannot be used on a mac. as simple as
that.
just that the lingo dictionary doesnt say so (which is where i looked to see
whether i could use it).
foolish old me .-(

as always.. any help will be greatly appreciated.
thx,
heike
