Probably not. If you can double-click one of the AVI Cast members and
see a player window in Director, the links are still valid.
It is worth noting that Microsoft has more or less announced they are
not going to be supporting AVI much longer, so if you need an
argument to convince someone else to go to another format -- such as
MPEG1 or QuickTime -- that could be it. AVIs appear to be heading the
same direction as MCI calls, which were permanently yanked in Win2k
(their phase-out begain with 98).
I don't recall where I head about the AVI thing, but I beleive MS is
going to be using MPEG (since its free, they can just use it and
pretend it's another brilliant idea of their own).
I mention it because neither MPEG1 nor QuickTime should give you any
problems in Director at all.
