tracking frequency? Almost no product does this on a complex audio waveform. (you probably mean 'pitch' or 'register' = our human sensation of high or low) & my guess is that you'd like to do what mp3 players do: 1. GET a value indicating activity within a given frequency band (mp3 is band-encoded information). This would allow one to make this form of FFT-Over-Time 3D display (+ EQ-style LED displays, 'color organs, etc') 2. SET the value for a given band This would allow for authors to be able to make functioning 'equalizers'. Since the mp3 data would need to be re-scaled on the fly, performance might become an issue on lower end machines. While having these new props would be interesting, they really wouldn't offer that much in new capabilities. INSTEAD, I believe the next steps for sound within Director should be: #1 'More than 8 Sound Channels' (including MIAWs not sharing the main movie's) It's a ROYAL pain only having only 8 channels ... #2 'Access to the raw audio while it's in the sound channel'. This would be for a new class of Xtra -> audio processors (to get the capability for the real-time sound processing: EQ stuff (mentioned above), 3D localization, reverbs, echo, etc.) btw: I found that when one tries to create 3D worlds, the need for both of these becomes glaringly obvious - this allows me to hope. hth -Buzz > >On Fri, 14 Jun 2002, Buzz Kettles wrote: > >> I don't think it's tracking the source music >> - that would require a cross-platform FFT Xtra >> >> At 10:57 AM -0500 6/14/02, you wrote: >> >Nah, I get that, I'm talking about knowing what frequency of the music is >> >played at the time. >> > >> >On Fri, 14 Jun 2002, Tab Julius wrote: >> > >> >> >> >> With 3D features.
