Me too, but the issue didn't come up until there was a PC version. The Mac has had non-PowerPC versions earlier on, and then PowerPC versions from about Director 4.04, but I think they were all 32 bit code. The limitations on the stage size probably come from the versions that existed before there was a PC version to be 16 bit. As I mentioned before, I'm sure it comes from some early QuickDraw limitation, or just because someone chose to store the value in a two byte integer to save a little time and space.
