While I'm quite humored by Warren and Colin's wity banter, maybe we ought to help Juan out with a little information.
I'm not sure about exactly what you envision as a "patch", but you can update Director projects after release. The easiest scheme for this is to include pertinent items (those that you envision needing updates in the future) in external cast libraries. Then when you need to update your project (provide a "patch"), that update would consist of new cast libraries as necessary. For example, imagine you had a library of images and scripts: images.cct and scripts.cct, you could then provide an update or patch by giving your users new copies of these files. You can even go one better if you provide an installer that merely overwrites the previously existing files with your new ones. Externally linked assets are easy to update (linked images, external cast libraries, etc.). Now, I don't know of a way to provide a patch to update elements that are completely internal to a projector or Shockwave file. To do this would require a knowledge of the file format which we just haven't shared publicly, therefore it would require a ton of reverse engineering to get the job done. I could be wrong though, maybe others can chime in with more info on this side of things.
