That might not be a valid comparison, since Director is used to write
CDs as well as net delivered games, whereas you don't find that as
much with Java.
It's a widely used platform. Not as widely used as Flash for net
delivery, but much more so for desktop/installed apps. You will
probably find (on Win only) more things written in VB, but in the
arena of dual-platform multimedia programs, Director is still pretty
much the only thing going.
It doesn't matter. Clients -- wise ones -- aren't going to care as
much about market share as what you can do with the tool. If you can
create something absolutely jaw-dropping phenomenal -- or even just
do what they ask you to do as a programmer in a reasonable time at
reasonable expense -- comparing Director to Flash or a flavor of
BASIC just won't be an issue.
