I know you can download a exporter from the alias|wavefront website. But
I don't know if you can use it also on macosx... I don't think so,
though... But you might try: www.aliaswavefront.com

As far as i know you can only export  directly from max, so you would
have
to save the file as a mesh or object file and put it into max then
export
from there.
