In this case, I'm highlighting a word on screen based on the cue point
associated with the same word in the .wav. So if the word in the .wav is
the third word, when I get cuepoint 3 from the .wav, I highlight that word.
Then when I get the next cuepoint, I reset word 3 to its default color and
highlight the fourth word. At the end, I make sure that the whole text
member is reset to its default color. In other words, the sound file is the
spoken text that's on the screen and the words highlight as they go.

I'm not using the on cuePoint handler in the project, but I'm using it as
one of my methods to debug the sounds to find out if I'm getting the
cuepoints in Director when when I should. I put the on cuePoint handler in
the movie script and have it put the name and number of the cuepoint as
it's received. Also, with the handler in the movie script and the movie
playing, if I play the sound file as a linked text member, by clicking the
play button on the Properties inspector, the message window displays the
data in the handler. I get the erratic behavior I've previously described
in the same way in either case.

BTW, the erraticism is erratic, so to speak. It's a few files in particular
that are problematic, but they're not failing 100% of the time. They might
work right 75% of the time for awhile, then I'll see the problem ten times
in a row. I might even close Director and upon reopening, things might work
a little better. I'll give this a try in a projector and see what happens.
