I have an mpeg (no audio track) inserted in a director movie, which whenFirst rough guess would be that what's happening is the CD's lens is physically in a different location over the disc's surface, preventing it from being able to both load the video *and* play the sound (because they're located in discontiguous areas of the disc). Since a CD-ROM drive has only one "read head", it cannot load two pieces of information at the same time, and as you noted speed is a factor here as well.
starting to play from a CD, interupts the already playing background
music track for a second or two.
I've tried setting the preloadRAM in the startMovie, but that doesn't seem to have any impact.
I'm not sure it actually does. I seem to recall it is buggy.
By what means are you playing the mp3? Is it inserted in your cast and being played by puppetSound? If so you could try preloading it specifically and setting it to never unload, which should pull it entirely into RAM.The mpeg file is as small as it can be (700k), and the audio track is a basic mp3 encoded at 44.1khz, 16bit (2mb). The mpeg is inserted with DirectMediaXtra.
