No, nothing at all like the registry. The plist is still used on a per-app basis and is carried around in the .app package, rather than being something kept in a central, fragile and highly corruptible database on the HD itself. It is the OSX equivalent of the creator/type stuff you'd hack with ResEdit in previous Mac versions.the plist just maps your .3 name to your app... ...er, kind of like a registry.
There is nothing on Mac, any OS version, that is like the Windows Registry.
