All of what Andy says may be true, once you have the data that's the beginning of the story. The getting the data part is the easy bit. Dealing with readers that can also modify the on board chips contents will be a huge extra challenge, I'm sure, so I'm not going to even think about that for now!
In our application the credit card reader was there as a proof of concept, we didn't have to deal with banks and the like. I did enable it as a way for people to enter their details, they would swipe their card and the on screen first and last name fields would be filled in for them.
