This thread got me thinking.
Are the images re-compressed or simply the existing compression used ?
I would have thought recompression in which case it would be better to
import lossless images then apply the compression.
I'm also wondering if you had noticed any significant time delay or
processor load when decompressing the images on the fly for the slideshow

Just thinking out loud.

I believe that JPG & PNG automatically hold onto their source bits on Import.
I'm unsure if other formats do it automatically, but there's an option in the Import popup selector to include the on Import.

These original bits (called an EDIM chunk) gets transferred directly to a DCR unless you have edited that member in the paint window and have agreed the warning that the original bits are being tossed. In that case, that member will then need to be re-compressed during the DCR/CCT creation process.

Correspondingly, MP3 sound members get transferred directly too, and only uncompressed members get SWA/MP3 compression applied during shocking.

BTW - changes to a bitmap's member compression setting will NOY get used unless the actual pixels have been modified within the paint window & you have agreed to toss the original bits.
(I just tried a single JPG movie made into a DCR with 2 different member compression settings & the DCRs had the same byte size.)
