You'll probably want to use a PHP/ASP intermediary.

Yes it does (on all platforms), but the xtra has been moved to the "goodies" folder on the distribution CD. Macromedia needs to reconsider this. That xtra can serve many purposes - more than what the Flash Communications Server alone can offer.
