thanks for the reply. I wonder if this solution would work:

I have to play video from a https:// directory.

Instead of trying to play the media from an https:// location through an mpeg xtra 
(seems that none of them work with https:// at the min), download the moviefiles to 
the dswmedia folder () and play it from there?

The video is mpeg 1 so doesn't stream anyways. Either way would take just as long to 
get ahold of the video, but this way its playable, at least I think?

The answer to your question is yes and no:
- yes if the developper used the interface provided by the XDK (SDK
provided by Macromedia to Xtras' developpers) to access URLs.
- no if the developper didn't used the proper XDK.

The consequence for you is that you'll have to test each xtra in an
https context to make sure it's working.
