Ian,

PreloadNetThing will only work if your xra is able to read a file from a
URL. PreloadNetThing is just loading the file in the browser's cache
(you don't have the control on the destination file name and location
which can vary from one OS to another).

The last 2 options here are:
- find an other MPEG xtra that'll work with https.
- build a custom xtra would mimic downloadnetthing through https under
shockwave to download the files.

I just have a couple of questions regarding your project to try to
understand the context:
- Do you need a Mac and Win solution? 
- Is it for a public Internet application or some king of intranet?
- What are the xtras to play mpeg movies did you try so far?
