I think they're about the same. Some people say dot syntax might be a tad slower, but I've seen no evidence to back that up. It all gets converted to bytecode when you "compile," and Macromedia engineers have told me that 'put x into char[y] of z' would compile to the same bytecode as 'z.char[y] = x'. I've been meaning to run some tests "when I get time." For now, I choose to believe that there is no significant speed difference.
