It's taking over 45 minutes for messages to reach lingo-l at the moment. Strange.
Not even remotely. I've seen delays as long as three hours and more. Characteristically my replies take at least 30 minutes to hit the list.
The point being that it's just lingo-l, other lists are snappy enough. So is lingo-l at the moment (sent at 11:56am, we'll see...).
Some weeks ago it repeatedly took hours until I saw my own posts on the list, and it apparently was a similar experience for another list participant so we actually took our discussion offlist (and I went to lurk mode afterwards.) But when I mentioned this at another list Tab said that indeed there were no technical problems at lingo-l.
OTOH, I see delays with direct-L, too.
Judging from my studying mail headers, direct-L delays are caused by a machine used as a relay (mail.listserv.dfn.de keeps a loong queue) while delays with lingo-L seem to originate at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
But that doesnt really proove that much as mail headers can easily be forged. If, i.e., someOne found out (correctly!) that terrorists, Europeans and that sort of creatures have a tendency to use a lingo of their own, and thusly, ordered traffic originating from lingo-L to get secretly routed via Langley, Virginia -- there would exist the knowlegde to hide traces from the mail headers, wouldn't it? And it would seem plausible if delays to "trusted" destinations take longer.
Granted, it is a possible explanation but not necessarily a likely one. It just happens to meet all the known facts (and factoids ;-)
