This is a shot in the dark, but I'm hoping someone may have run into this before. I'll try to be brief, but more background info is better than less. (When I am vague, it is because I am dealing with a variety of generic issues, and I'm hoping to focus on a specific item later.)
I'm troubleshooting an app that uses external casts, and external MIDI (with the SequenceXtra) and MP3 files. It works fine locally, and on the author's server. However, it won't work on the client's server. I've worked with the client's server often, and this is not unusual. I can't explain why, but it often has problems with any kind of moderate to complex asset structures. I have nothing more precise worth relating here. I'm just saying that this is not surprising for this server, and I'm hoping I may have hit on a partial solution. It boils down to the fact that this server has had trouble with external casts. In this app, when we eliminated the external casts, it worked partially. It still won't load external assets. However, the external casts may have started working when a relative path was used, as opposed to the absolute path used by the author. Also, the external assets that aren't working use absolute paths (may be required by the xtra, but I hope not and I'm looking into it). SO... --if the external casts are working with a relative path (still testing), --and I think I remember that I have gotten external casts to work on this server previously --and I know I've gotten external ASSETS to work on this server --and the external assets that aren't working now use absolute paths ...it makes me wonder: Could this server have a problem with an absolute path to itself? Some sort of gateway/firewall, etc.? Obviously I will prepare a simple test that will use relative paths for all casts and assets (assuming the xtra allows that for the MIDI files). I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of absolute paths to external casts or individual assets, not working on a server.
