My reply to this thread were to comment on Robert Tweed's discussion on the event processing hierachy and others perception that using Frame 1 caused problems:
Robert wrote, in part:
My comment was:
No matter what tests I do, the order is always: [prepareMovie] beginSprite,
prepareFrame, [startMovie] enterFrame, exitFrame - although obviously if you
don't use frame one then beginSprite/prepareFrame will be called after
startMovie rather than before. The fact that it's actually the other way
around does seem to confuse a lot of people though.
Which is exactly why people have commented on problems with Frame 1 :-)
This is not commenting on whether one should use Frame 1 or not, just on the fact that "new users" of Director are usually unaware or have never been told about "EventManagers" , "SpriteManagers", or even OOP, when they first start their "Lets make this car move across the stage, using this Lingo stuff" ;-)
