Acrobat needs the Windows working directory to be set to the same folder as
the one containing the document. Otherwise it sort of ignores the file path
you specified.

To my knowledge, you either need to put the PDF in the same folder with
your Director movies or use a third-party Xtra to set the working directory.

I never tried setting the searchpaths, but maybe that would work too (I
doubt it).

Our zOpen Xtra will set the working directory (and also locate Acrobat if
you don't know where the app is located). I can send you an example that
demonstrates this with PDF files. You'd need the demo version of the zOpen
Xtra and/or need to purchase the release version for shipping.

I'm sure other Xtras exists that can help you as well. I assume some of the
OS-related Xtras like DirectOS can set the working director.

I assume Buddy API also has some way to launch documents. I assume it would
also work with Acrobat. (This necessity to set the working directory is a
quirk of Acrobat. It doesn't occur with most other applications).
