hope this helps (and i hope you can understand my "italianized" english):

you can have an area of the irregular shaped stage (only for MIAW) in this
way: draw the shape you want to use in a new cast member (for example a
circle), call it (for example) "miaw_shape", transform it in a 1 bit image
(use the command "transform bitmap" from the menu "modify"), then use this
lingo instruction

the windowType of window  "miaw_name" =  member "miaw_shape"

it works only from a projector, and absolutely not in author mode
