No, it doesn't really work like that.
You don't put cast members on the stage--you put sprites on the stage.
This is really a bit of a heady subject to get into on the list. I would
venture a guess that you would profit greatly from reading the manual--this
is a pretty basic concept in Director.
There are some good books you can read, too. Bruce Epstein's "Director in a
Nutshell" is good, though getting a bit dated. Gary Rosenzweig's "Using
Macromedia Director 8" is very comprehensive and well-written. There's also
a version of his book for Director 7--you can get it on Amazon.
