The full name of the xtra is DirectCommunication, and it handles serial port
traffic.

You're going to need the right software on the other end as well: directCom
can write strings and send them over the serial port, but they won't do
anything if the hardware those strings go to doesn't have the software to
accept those strings.
Also, the string that you send will depend not on directCom itself, but on
the software on the other side. You'll need to get the manual for that - you
can spend the rest of your life trying to guess what the codes are...
