I've noticed these problems--mainly horrible tracking/kerning errors when I
embed the font on a mac and bring it over to the PC. I've also noticed the
appearence of a font change slightly after embedding it, e.g. the character
width gets a little thinner or other minor anomalies.
I have yet to do any significant testing, but if you could share some of
your work-arounds that would probably save a lot of time for a few of us out
here, and maybe even lead you down the path to riches and enlightenment.
