Just a thought
Depending on the location of the external audio file data on the CD
you may be trying to read from two different areas simultaneously, causing a
seek delay before the CD can buffer.
I think TOAST can allow file positioning on the CD but I'm not sure about
any WIN equivalent.
also FWIW I did something similiar recently with the external audio
converted to .swa, and had no problems running on a WIN98 machines

This is a little weird. While I was testing one of our projects, I noticed a
weird sound stutter in playback on a CD-R. Basically we have 2 types of
sounds a unique background sound that loops & various Narration type sounds.
The sounds seem to stutter (or pause) when the narration sound initiates.
Narrowing it down took a while, but this is what I have found.

The narration sound is in sound channel 1 and the background sound is in...
