i just wanted to say that it has been very instructive following this thread
(as have many others).
i hope that who even sarcastically commented that they no longer wanted to
participate in the list (presumably because the topic was to trivial) that
there are, as a maths professor once remarked to me, no stupid questions,
only stupid answers.
