I didn't see the message about anyone who thought it was a silly topic, but
then I don't get to read all the messages. However (1) your take on it is
correct (actually, I would add that the only stupid questions are the ones
that are not asked), and (2) it's actually very relevant and relates to a
lot of issues you can find in Lingo.
It may seem to some people like a lot of nitpicking on the internals of how
you close an MIAW, but in fact it relates to a lot of Lingo. Ever get a "A
fatal error has occurred - Director will exit now"? One easy way to do
that is to (1) send to an object that no longer exists, or (2) have an
object initiate a call that results in the destruction of that object while
that object is still on the root of the call chain. The question here was
about MIAWs, but the same principle exists, and if you understand that
principle you can avoid, or at least solve, crashes in Director when using
and destroying objects (and MIAWs, in this case).
