Hmm, I never see any problems with UNC filenames. Out of curiosity, are you
using fileIO's displayOpen() and displaySave()? I'm using Buddy API's file
open/save dialogs in all my projects. FileIO doesn't show any problems
creating/opening the files or saving/loading the data from files with the
filenames returned by BudAPI dialogs. I just had another thought, hang on a
sec.

<cough> The code is a bit dusty, but I just checked & I'm not using
baShortFileName() functions, either.
P.S. Tested in versions D7.02 and less.
