I was one of the people who suggested setting the frame rate low (I think
Tab was the other), but I saw a number of other suggestions:
- Make the movie direct to stage
- Set the idleHandlerPeriod = 0
- Play it at the settings it was compressed at. Trying to show a 500 x 300
movie at 800 x 600 will slow it down a lot.
- What compression algorithm are you using?
- What speed is the CD-ROM, or are you playing off the hard drive or a LAN?
- What else is going on in Director? Is it playing a Flash sprite? Another
video? Audio? Net access? Anything else that could be taking cpu cycles or
bandwidth from the video?
- What other differences are there between the 800 x 600 movie you liked
and this one? Compression algorithm? Different machine? Different source?
When you're trying to figure out why something works better than something
else, you have to ask yourself what the differences are.

Cordially,

Kerry Thompson
