I know almost nothing about Authorware, but I can relate to you a
personal experience. As a freelancer, I am currently working on a
college level training course. The company I am working for started
writing this project in Authorware. They had been working on it for
about a year, as a prototype eventually to be turned into a real
product. They found out that Macromedia has decided to eliminate
support for the Mac in Authorware.
They are really Mac people, and they expect that their audience
(college students) would be heavily Mac-based. So, the decision to
no longer continue supporting the Mac made them jump ship and hire me
to redo the project in Director. They want to build a line of
products and knowing that they would not be able to get newer
versions/updates/bug fixes in Authorware made their decision very
easy for them.
They are very happy with the project being done in Director and I am
adding functionality that they hadn't even considered doing in
Authorware. While Authorware had some built in elements for tracking
and quizes, I have written equivalent code in Lingo.
It has turned out to be a very good project for me.
