If a monitor is set to 8 bit, this difference is even more pronounced.
Performance impact is negligible.
IMHO, this Dither checkbox should be enabled for all deep color
images (16 or 24) - especially if JPEG compression has been selected
for that image (the Shockwave default). JPEGs images usually look a
lot uglier at lower monitor depth settings if they are not dithered.
(& an ECR was entered long ago about this).
