Tim,
I've done this quickly and easily using one of buddyapi's free functions
MOVIE SCRIPT::
global gAcroLoc
on startMovie
  set buddyobj=new(xtra "budAPI")
  --find the path of acrobat reader through buddy api
  gAcroLoc=BaFindApp("pdf")
end
BEHAVIOUR ON YOUR BUTTON::
global gAcroLoc
on mouseUp me
   if voidP(gAcroLoc) then
    alert" Sorry, your system doesn't appear to have Adobe Acrobat
installed."
    --- you can then run the installer if you want, but I'm just keeping it
simple here---
  else
    open "your_pdf_file" with gAcroLoc
  end if
end mouseUp me

Don't forget to put a "go the frame" on your splash screen frame..
HTH
Brad

Subject: <lingo-l> opening PDF

hello all,

I want to make a simple "splash" screen with a button. if you press that
button a PDF file needs to be opened (in the acrobat reader). does anyone
know how to do this ? (without the PDF xtra). and also, is there a wat to
check the reader is present ?

thanks in advance,

Tim.
