If you want to find applications you can use DirectOS Xtra of DirectXtras
Inc.
http://www.directxtras.com
This xtra works fine with Macintosh and Windows. This xtra give you the
control of the OS including finding applications if and only if they are
correctly installed and registered by the OS. On windows platform it looks
based on the extension of the file. This means if you don't have Word
installed but it you have Wordpad if you look for a word document (.doc) it
will find WordPad. On Macintosh will look for a creator instead for an
extension. I've made a director movie using this extra to extract the
creator from a file on Macintosh machine.
I hope this helps!

Word, etc.
Thank you in advance.
