Pause used to be the way to stop a movie from advancing. Even in D6.5 it was already recommended that you use go the frame instead of pause. It may be that by now pause doesn't even work at all, but at least you've been forewarned for about four years that it wasn't to be used. The opposite of pause was continue, not unpause. There is another pause, which is pause(sprite gifsprite) that's used for pausing an animated GIF.
