have you tried the newer sound controls?

sound(pChannel).play( member pSound)

You also might want to look at:
the soundDevice
the soundDeviceList

on the PC.

and there are 8 channels on Win machines, too.  Unless someone's tweaking 
the <projectorname>.ini file to lower it.
