Hi,
The cheapest solution is to use the triplet
NetLingo(client)/ASP(server)/DBMS(server). Basically you can have an
access/SQL Server/mySQL/Oracle/ODBC database on a server that contains all
your information. You're accessing this DB using ASP scripting language
(Javascript, perl, VB, etc...) - so you have to build a couple of scripts
depending on the functionalities required by your application. Then your
client (shockwave movie)is accessing the ASP scripts using NetLingo
(GetNetText, PostNetText).
The other way around is using and xtra that deals with online database (more
espensive, but less programming for you):
- DatagripNet (http:\\www.datagrip.com)
- V12Online or GoldenGate (http:\\www.integrationNewMedia.com)

Subject: <lingo-l> <Lingo> User Online Accounts
Dear Anyone,
Im a student in the uk doing my final year. My group and i are making a
cdrom which interacts with a website to help students learn different
languages. One function that we have decided is vital to our project is
to give each user a profile or account.
The user would start the cd and would be asked to either register or
enter in there username (or email address) and password. The validation
should be checked from an online database or something and allow to
proceed depending on the outcome of the submitted password. I would like
the user to be able to enter a few details about themselves and add that
to there account...ie date of birth, nationality etc.
Im sure this can be done, but dont know how. Please can you help a
struggling student................
Thanks for your time..................
Jon.
