Yes. Director 7 or above sitting in the background, even if it is paused and doing nothing, will halve the amount of time the browser is getting for shockwave. Even Flash being open will do that. A more subtle problem is that certain frame rates will be more successful than other. For example, 20 fps may only give 12 fps performance, but 21 fps will give 20 fps performance.
