Would u have any idea of the code for something like that Thanx Jon -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Al Hospers Sent: 16 November 2001 11:46 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: <lingo-l> Searching a text file for email addresses > Im tryin to creste a simple register type thing on my webpage... > I thought of getting people to submit there email address which I will > append to a text document line by line... > > How would I tell director to read the text document and search for a > specific email address..... 1 - look into getNetText to retrieve the text file from the web 2 - once you have the file, use a repeat loop to go thru the file line by line checking each line to see if it contains the email address you are looking for. 3 - if it does, then do whatever you need to do OR do # 1 and use TextCruncher from UpdateStage to search the text data to do the search. It may be overkill, but if you eventually end up with a large list of email addresses, or there is additional information contained in the file, it may be worth considering. TextCruncher does lightning-fast searchs of text. You can use it in a Director projector or in a Shockwave movie to perform a real-time fulltext search or even create indices for an indexed search of very large amounts of text. The latter seems particularly appropriate in your case. Here is a link to an article in the UpdateStage archives that should help get you on your way: http://www.updatestage.com/previous/981201.html There is even a drag and drop behavior in the current demo that does the indexing and runtime search for you! The current version of the TextCruncher Xtra is a commercial product available for sale through www.updateStage.com. It is $129, is on Mac and Windows, supports Director 6-8 and is Shockwave safe. For more information, download a trial version or to order TextCruncher go here: http://www.updatestage.com/xtras/textcruncher.html I think you will find it will do what you need and save you a ton of time.
