Not only medicine.

The sci-fi world has presumably 'modelled' a world in which far more
people survive much longer.

Population-counts explode?
Population-densities explode?
Pressure on raw materials is exacerbated, esp. fresh, clean water?
Nation-level tensions and violence explode, spiked by the need for space
and raw materials?
Society-level tensions and violence explode, spiked by the inability to
achieve social distance / other people 'in your face' all the time?
Individual-level boredom and existential indifference spiral upwards?
Primary causes of death become inter-personal and self-violence?

Later:
The collapse of human immune defensive systems results in a new virus
wiping out much of the human race before the virus-specific cure arrives?

I won't be around long enough to find out whether the impacts of such
cures are worse than the diseases they overcome ...
