So, what exactly is the metaverse?
It's a pity the article didn't answer the question. There's nothing exact about the content.

A metaverse looks to me like a technologist's wet dream and just as fantastic; literally, a fantasy.

What the value of a combination of this lot "Contributing trends include virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), flexible work styles, head-mounted displays (HMDs), an AR cloud, the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and spatial computing." is anyone's guess and probably about as accurate as the author's.

Nowhere have I seen a credible description of the need/value/costs/risks of a metaverse, but what the heck, the incredible (i.e. zero credibility) descriptions keep some people amused.

It all reminds me of other ground breaking technologies such as the Segway, quadraphonic sound and Clive Sinclair's C5, not to mention flying cars and personal helicopters.

There's only one thing worse than a technologist making outlandish predictions and that's believing them.
