Some of the applications are exactly that. ;-)
More seriously, VR makes for a compelling news story, but making an
application too much like real life makes it a bit dull and
inconvenient. As an example, I spent about two weeks in Singapore
recently, getting lost between, and in, conference venues. An exact
reproduction of where I was would be no use, I needed a simplified
representation, which highlighted useful landmarks.
