Roger, you took the words right out of my mouth, sorry, email.

However I was also going to make reference to andyf's posting on "What 
the Americans do with fibre-based broadband" in which there was the 
phrase "the consumption of knowledge".

Knowledge is a human characteristic, it's something a human has. You 
can't consume it and you can't open source it.

Maybe it's all this new fad for on-line education that's churning out 
uninformed ambassadors, library directors and journalists.
