Wireless is less reliable than a cable in the ground. Satellite is less
reliable than both. Suggesting that wireless or satellite is a viable
replacement for a physical cable is mind-bogglingly idiotic. The first
death would elevate it to criminal negligence.

Instead of a telephone, the commission’s draft report’s suggested
alternative is a mobile phone service.
For those not in a service area, 70 per cent of Australia’s land mass,
it suggests that nbn satellite would be the phone provider.
