The college was using a GUI to control the cameras, with recording, pan tilt and zoom. There was not fancy image recognition software. But that was some years ago.

I attended a demonstration at an educational conference in Canberra a few weeks ago where a vendor was offering facial recognition software. The idea was to identify students who had been banned if they attempted to enter a campus. This was fully automatic, scanning every person as they set foot on campus and tracking them everywhere on campus.

There are of course troubling aspects to such a system.
