Just to get this back on topic, perhaps technology can help. The law
could be changed to require political donations be made only via electronic funds transfer. Cash donations would be banned, due to the difficulty of tracing shopping bags full of cash. Those donating would be required to identify themselves, and the donation would be automatically made public at the same time it was transferred to the party's account. This system would be run by the ATO ,and also used to apply for a tax deduction.

An alternative approach would be to make all donations anonymous, with
it illegal for a donor to disclose what they donated. Individual donations would be aggregated and paid in random installments to the parties periodically, so it would be hard to identify the source of an individual donation.
