I stumbled across something on the web this morning in which someone from
IBM said the same thing. Trouble is I don't remember the site or the URL so
I can't point you at it.

Hello,
I had taken a class in AIX SP sysadmin a couple of months ago
and the instructor mentioned that through the grape-vine that
he heard that IBM was comtemplating the idea of AIX possibly
being replaced by LINUX running on the zSeries machines??
Is this guy dreamimng or is there any shread of truth to that?
Curious??
